Wuhan Energy Flower Building

Wuhan, China

This floral-shaped masterpiece is also considered the world’s most sustainable building. Inspired by the Calla Lily, the building features zero carbon emissions and harnesses wind and solar energy for its energy needs. It stands at 140 meters tall and is designed in such a way that the Calla Lily shaped roof provides shade to the office buildings during the hot summers in China. The roof of the flower also has solar panels to capture energy. Also, rainwater is collected in the bowl and re-used for water supply throughout the building. The vertical pistil sticking up out of the flower has wind turbines within to generate wind energy. There is a solar chimney 120 meters in height designed for natural air ventilation into the offices. This structure houses the energy center of Wuhan which is a leading hub for the research and development of new energy technologies.

The Lotus Temple

New Dehli, India

An incredible structure, designed and used for an incredible purpose. The Lotus Temple, also known as Bahai House of Worship, is constructed in the shape of a Lotus Blossom with 27 free-standing marble-clad “petals” arranged in groups of three to form nine sides. Each of nine sides has a door which opens onto a central hall over 34 meters (112 feet)  in height with the capacity to hold 2,500 people. The Lotus Temple is one of the world’s most beautiful religious buildings as well as one of the most visited places in the world. The entrance has enchanting ponds and gardens to welcoming you. The Bahai faith believes in the Oneness of God, Religions, and Mankind, therefore people of all religions and race are welcome in the temple. There are no idols to worship or ritualistic ceremonies, just a place for people to come and meditate and find inner peace.
